Most patients find IPL therapy to be comfortable, with minimal discomfort. During the procedure, you may feel a slight warming sensation or a mild stinging as the pulses of light are applied to the skin around your eyes. Some people describe it as similar to a rubber band snapping against the skin, but the discomfort is generally brief and tolerable.
Your eye care provider will apply a cooling gel to the treatment area before starting IPL, which helps to protect your skin and reduce any sensation of heat. Additionally, protective goggles are worn to shield your eyes during the procedure.
Since IPL is non-invasive, there’s no need for anesthesia, and most people can return to their normal activities immediately after the session. If you feel any post-treatment sensitivity, it usually resolves within a few hours to a day.
